It isn't - a McLean assisted living community is licensed by the exact same Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) process, under 22VAC40-73, as a far more modest facility elsewhere in Fairfax County. Price does not exempt anyone from inspection.

What to verify, regardless of how the tour went

• Current VDSS license status - active, provisional, or otherwise conditioned.
• The most recent inspection findings, and whether anything cited remains open.
• If memory care is involved, whether the secured unit itself carries any separate notation on the license.

Nursing care is a different agency here too

If the conversation shifts toward a skilled-nursing level of care - sometimes the case at larger continuing-care campuses in this corridor - that license instead comes from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), not VDSS. Ask which applies before assuming one lookup covers both.
